Peter Grütter
Born in Bern, Peter Grütter represented Switzerland at international competitions in the 1950's and 60's. He ended his eligible career after participating in the 1964 Olympic Games in Innsbruck, but soon realized that his job in a bank wasn't fulfilling, so he became a figure skating coach the following year. After 10 years in Montana (Valais), he moved to Geneva in 1976 and has since then worked with many skaters, teaching them what he learned from Jack Gerschwiler. He has been to every European Championships since 1981 with at least one of his students.
In 1995, a little boy came up to him and asked him to be his coach. Mr. Grütter immediately noticed the incredible potential in that child who wasn't afraid of the 2-hour drive from his hometown to Geneva and decided to give him all the help he could. From small national competitions to major international events, Mr. Grütter has traveled around the world with Stéphane and has brought him to the heights we all know.
Salomé Brunner
Swiss champion "cadet" in pairs and then junior champion in single skating, Salomé Brunner eventually found her true passion in ice dancing. She represented Switzerland at the 1984 World Championships with her partner Markus Merz and, after turning pro, went on to perform in Jayne Torvill & Christopher Dean's "World Tour" and in Holiday on Ice.
In parallel to her skating career, Salomé attended dance seminars, and when she quit skating, she decided to work as a choreographer. Among others, she has collaborated with Mr. Grütter and his students for about 15 years and has choreographed for Stéphane for the last 10 years. Always calm and confident, she is Stéphane's guardian angel and gives him all her strength and support; Stéphane, in exchange, doesn't mind baby-sitting her son Leo.
Majda & Jean-Sébastien Scharl
Majda and Jean-Sébastien Scharl became Stéphane's physical trainers in November 2004. Jean-Sébastien is a member of the directing committee of the sports faculty at the University of Lausanne and responsible for CASS (Center for analyzes in sports and health). Majda is a Swiss Olympic coach for elite sports (Swiss Olympic is the major sports organisation in Switzerland and takes care of all elite athletes). Full of energy and always busy finding ways to motivate Stéphane and make him laugh, she is the one making sure he doesn't get injured and stays in top shape at competitions.
Since Stéphane wanted other Swiss skaters as well to benefit from their valuable help, Majda and Jean-Sébastien now also work with the members of the national teams of the Swiss Skating Union.
